The Taximan's story
I. SETTING
The characters lived in the country of Singapore. Furthermore, the story began from the conversation of a taxi man and a passenger(madam, a teacher). The conversation occurs within a taxi where the narrator really tries to tell his agony in a pretty way he could to his listener. Perhaps, the atmosphere within the conversation was really intense and emotional.
II. CHARACTERS
1. Driver
He is the narrator of the story who was a taxi man for twenty years. He has eight children: two daughters and six sons. He was the one who sees the wrong deeds of the teenagers of the present generation and tends to tell it to a woman( madam, his passenger)
2.Lay Choo
She is the daughter of the taxi man. As the narrator describes, she received good and excellent remark from her teacher. Thus, she was the most favourite among the taximan’s children. Eagerly, the taxi man earns money to send her to college.
3.Madam
He was the one whom the narrator addresses. She was the one who listens to the story of the narrator, but the story didn’t state her responses. Also, she was a teacher.
III. POINT OF VIEW
First person point of view - The taxi man who was the main subject of the story was at the same time the narrator of his own story
IV. THEME
Differences of the past and present generation in conduct and moral values.
